As your trusted paediatric orthodontist, we understand that little smiles deserve big care.

Our children’s orthodontist specialises in making early orthodontic treatment feel like an exciting adventure rather than something scary.

From the moment your family visits the team, we create a warm, playful environment where they feel comfortable and confident.

Why This Life Stage is Perfect for Early Treatment

Early orthodontic treatment can work wonders when timed just right. It can involve gently guiding growing jaws,

creating space for incoming teeth and addressing habits like thumb sucking before they become bigger concerns.

At Smiles we believe in catching potential issues early when treatment is often simpler and more comfortable.

But every child is different, that’s why the team is dedicated to explaining each step so everyone understands the process.

FAQs:

There’s no perfect age for every child, but between 6 and 10 years of age  is a great time to check in with a registered orthodontist. By this stage, adult teeth are starting to come through, and an orthodontist can spot early signs of bite or jaw issues before they become harder to treat.

Crooked teeth are one of the more obvious signs, but there are a few other things to look out for that may suggest early orthodontic treatment could help:

  • An overbite
  • An overjet
  • An underbite
  • Speech difficulties linked to jaw or tooth alignment
  • Early loss of baby teeth due to decay or trauma

Not every child will need early orthodontic treatment or even braces. But a children’s orthodontic assessment helps you stay one step ahead, making sure you are ready with the right plan at the right age if treatment is ever required.

Braces do not cause pain when they’re fitted, but it’s normal for your child to feel some

discomfort 4-6 hours after placement. This discomfort has generally subsided after one week.

Yes, you can! There’s no referral needed to see a paediatric orthodontist at our practice. You’re welcome to reach out to us directly whenever you’re ready.
